"The Marawi crisis has shown the President's brilliant leadership" - Prosecutor Cañete



May 23, 2017, when the war in Marawi started that is being led by Isnilon Hapilon (Commander leader of Abu Sayaf based in Basilan and said to be the emir of ISIS in Southeast Asia), Omar Maute (One of the leaders behind the Maute Terrorists Group), and Mahmud Ahmad (Believed to be the group’s financer).

In a press conference, a confirmation came from Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana wherein he said that two of the terrorist leaders, Hapilon and Maute, are dead in an assault by the Philippine troops this morning. But unfortunately, he said that the group still has 20 hostages that need to be saved. 



“So they were able to do it this morning. They were able to get Isnilon Hapilon and Omar Maute. They were both killed. In fact, their faces are now splashed in the internet. They were also able to recover 17 hostages,”

In response to the question regarding the lifting of Martial Law that was asked to him, Lorenzana said that they will assess the situation first. He added that he and President Rodrigo Duterte was supposed to visit Marawi to personally give support, mourn for dead and to assess the situation but the ground commander advised them not to go because they will assault this morning.



“We were supposed to go to Marawi today with the President but we were advised by ground commanders not to go because they will conduct the assault this morning,”

This sincere benevolence of the President for the country gained commendation from Darwin Cañete, lawyer and staunch supporter of Duterte.

We know the psychological and emotional price he is paying and appreciate his sacrifice. Be happy that we have a leader we can count on."
