73 Chinese, 3 Filipinos nabbed for illegal online gambling in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY: Seventy-three Chinese and three Filipinos were arrested late Tuesday at a private hotel in Cagayan for illegal online gambling, police said on Wednesday.

BGen. Crizaldo Nieves, Cagayan Valley regional police director, said the Filipinos arrested at the Villa Saturnina Hotel and Resort in Sitio Rafat, Rapuli, Santa Ana were identified as  Erwin Digol, Alexis Isaac Ferro and Mylene Tuazon — all hotel employees.

Frank Yu, hotel owner and OFA Cagayan State Developer Corporation head, who was tagged as the main culprit, is still at large.

Seized were 103 desktop and laptop computers being used in the operations.

Operatives of the Cagayan provincial police, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Anti-Cyber Crime Unit and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regional office collared the 79 people at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The raiders were armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Nicanor Pascual of the Regional Trial Court-Branch 8 in Aparri, Cagayan.

The operation was part of a follow-up investigation by the Cagayan police and Regional Anti-Cyber Crime Unit.
