Abueva stays suspended despite improvement

PHILIPPINE Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner Willie Marcial said that although Calvin Abueva has completed all the six requirements asked of him, the beleaguered forward will not yet be reinstated in the league.

“We already talked last Thursday. It was a good discussion. I told him there’s still a process that we have to go through. The good thing is that he understands me, and I understand him. This is great,” said the commissioner in Filipino during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum held online on Tuesday.

“I saw some improvements with Calvin,” Marcial added without revealing what the last process he discussed with Abueva was.

The 2013 Rookie of the Year was suspended indefinitely since June 2019 and fined P70,000 for clotheslining TNT KaTropa import Terence Jones in May 2019. During a game in the same month prior to that incident, he had a shouting match with Maika Rivera, the girlfriend of TNT guard Bobby Ray Parks Jr.
