Magnitude 5.2 aftershock hits Masbate — Phivolcs
A 5.2 magnitude aftershock hit the town of Cataingan, Masbate early Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Renato Solidum, Phivolcs chief, said the tremor took place at 5:50 a.m., 6 kilometers in depth and tectonic in origin.
Solidum, in a text message to The Manila Times, said there was no initial report of damage but warned that aftershocks may still occur, a day after a 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit the town.
A retired police officer died and 20 others were injured from structures that collapsed during the quake that was felt at Intensity 7.
Solidum said that with such magnitude, “stronger aftershocks cannot be discounted”.
