Manila opens 13th quarantine facility in Quiapo
THE Manila government on Friday opened its 13th quarantine facility in Quiapo that would accommodate suspected and probable carriers of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso attended the opening of the new quarantine facility at the Manuel L. Quezon University on Fr. Hidalgo St. on Friday morning.
“It’s a good thing that Manila has started to build quarantine facilities despite having little demand three months ago, because now it’s almost full,” Domagoso said during a speech.
The 600-bed quarantine facility is now 85 percent full, according to the mayor.
The local chief executive also announced the city government’s plan of adding two more quarantine facilities at the San Andres Sports Complex and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
The Quiapo-based quarantine facility could accommodate 60 patients, bringing the city’s accumulated bed capacity to 600.
There are also local quarantine facilities currently in use like the Gregorio Del Pilar, Timoteo Paez, Bacood and P. Gomez Elementary Schools; Tondo, Arellano and Araullo High Schools; Tondo, San Andres, Dapitan, Delpan and Patricia Sports Complex. All have a combined total of 545 beds.
