Parañaque residents to receive P5,000 Covid aid via bank-on-wheels

THE Parañaque City government on Wednesday formally launched the on-site digital disbursement of its local cash assistance program via “Bank-on-Wheels” (BOW) to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In partnership with Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank), the city’s 50,000 household beneficiaries can now withdraw their P5,000 Covid-19 cash aid through BOW, a 5G-powered and airconditioned banking kiosk in a mobile van.

“Today is another milestone as we witness the pilot run of the on-site digital disbursement of Paraña-Cash Assistance Program which is P5,000 for every household in Paranaque,” said Mayor Edwin Olivarez.

Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya, Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) Director General Jeremiah Belgica, Union Bank Senior Vice President Paolo Baltao, City Business Permit and Licensing Office Chief Melanie Malaya and city hall officials attended the launch.

Olivarez expressed optimism that with this program, local residents “will be able to fully embrace the benefits of modern technologies in this time of community quarantine and pandemic.”

The city government has suspended the construction of the P200-million astrodome project this year to guarantee the funding for the cash aid to thousands of families.

As of posting time, there are 2,707 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the city, of which, 1,789 have recovered and 88 have died.
