“Lolo maraming, maraming salamat sa lahat ng bagay na binigay at naitulong mo sa akin para maging maganda at maayos ang buhay ko,” (Grandfather, thank you for all the things and the help you gave me so that I can have a beautiful life), Paul dela Cruz Almario posted on his Facebook page on Saturday, a day after he was hospitalized for the virus.

Almario bid farewell in Filipino to Lim whom he called his “grandfather, father, idol, and Dirty Harry”.

Almario’s post generated 1,700 comments, 3, 400 shares and 4,400 reactions.

Lim was a former director of the National Bureau of Investigation and served as Manila mayor from 1992 to 1998 and again from 2007 to 2013. He ran for president in 1998 but lost to then vice president Joseph Estrada. He also served as the secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) from 2000 to 2001 and a senator from 2004 to 2007.

Lim earned the monicker “Dirty Harry”, from the movie of the same title, for his tough anti-crime policies. The film starred Hollywood star Clint Eastwood.
