Police to be deployed to remittance centers during cash aid distribution – DILG
POLICE will be deployed to remittance centers to ensure that health protocols will be enforced during the distribution of the second tranche of the cash aid under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said on Tuesday.
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año directed Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, Joint Task Force Covid Shield Commander, for the immediate deployment of police officers who, Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said, would ensure physical distancing, the use of face masks, among others.
“Our field offices have monitored long lines in some remittance centers, we advise them to practice social distancing at all times to protect themselves and their families,” Malaya, concurrent DILG spokesman, said in a statement.
Malaya encouraged villages to assign barangay tanods, to help police.
The DILG and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) agreed that the second tranche of the cash aid would be given through electronic platforms although manual distribution would be conducted in rural and far-flung areas in the country.
