Updates on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ Kanye West and Run-DMC
Producers exit Ellen’s show amid workplace complaints
LOS ANGELES: Executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” have exited amid allegations of a dysfunctional workplace with sexual misconduct and racist remarks.
An internal company investigation was prompted by a BuzzFeed News report in July based on 36 interviews with ex-staffers, who complained about or said they witnessed improper and unfair treatment.
Most of the allegations were tied to senior managers, including Glavin, Leman and Norman. Leman denied “any kind of sexual impropriety” and Norman denied the accusations.
DeGeneres said she found claims about the show’s environment to be “heartbreaking.” AP
Kanye West qualifies as presidential candidate in Utah
SALT LAKE CITY: Rapper Kanye West has qualified to appear on Utah’s ballot this November as an unaffiliated presidential candidate, an elections official said.
State Elections Director Justin Lee said that West’s campaign gathered the necessary 1,000 signatures from registered voters required to appear on the ballot.
West, who once backed Republican President Donald Trump, announced last month that he had broken with Trump and would launch his own presidential bid.
West has so far qualified in several states including Arkansas, Oklahoma and Colorado. His effort to get on the ballot has been challenged in Wisconsin. AP
Two men charged in killing of Run-DMC’s Jam Master Jay
NEW YORK: Nearly two decades after the shooting of Run-DMC star Jam Master Jay, federal prosecutors said they have solved one of New York City’s most enduring mysteries, charging two men from his neighborhood with murder and suggesting that the hip-hop artist — celebrated for his anti-drug stance — was ambushed over a cocaine deal.
The suspects were identified as Ronald Washington, 56, who is currently serving a federal prison sentence from a string of robberies while on the run from police after Jay’s 2002 death, and Karl Jordan Jr., 36, who is charged with engaging in a cocaine distribution conspiracy in 2017. AP
