Makabayan coalition backs Robredo-Pangilinan tandem

THE Makabayan coalition formally endorsed on Saturday the tandem of Vice President Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo and Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan in the May 9 elections for president and vice president.

Former representative and Makabayan Vice-Chairman Liza Maza said: "Sina Leni at Kiko ang tumindig bilang tunay na puwersang oposisyon. Kinakatawan nila ngayon ang pinakamahusay na tsance para biguin ang tambalang Marcos-Duterte (Leni and Kiko stepped up as the force of opposition. They are the greatest hope for defeating the Marcos-Duterte alliance)."

According to senatorial aspirant Neri Colmenares, Robredo and Pangilinan can obtain roughly 3 million votes based on the number of votes that every Makabayan Partylist can get.

But Colmenares said in Filipino that the coalition was not dictating on who its members should vote for but said its endorsement was based on "platform".

In the 2016 elections, the coalition endorsed Mary Grace Poe Llamanzares and Francis Joseph "Chiz" Escudero, respectively.

It consists of Bayan Muna, ACT Teachers, Kabataan Partylist, Gabriela Women's Party and Anakpawis.
