Security readied for VP inauguration
DAVAO City Police Office spokeswoman Maj. Ma. Teresita Gaspan said a security plan is in the works for the oath-taking ceremony of Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio in Davao City on June 19.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday's AFP-PNP Press Corps media briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Gaspan said initial security measures have already been drawn.
However, she said there are some adjustments to be made in the security plan because they are expecting more visitors to come from outside the Davao Region.
She said they are still waiting for the coordinating conference to be initiated by the city government to finalize the security preparation for the historic event in Davao City.
Gaspan said the venue for the oath-taking ceremony has not been finalized yet since the vice president had only announced during her radio program on Monday, May 16, that the event is happening on June 19.
Gaspan also said they are expecting President Rodrigo Duterte to attend his daughter's oath-taking ceremony.
Duterte-Carpio won the vice presidential election by a landslide with over 31.5 million votes based on the partial and unofficial count of the Commission on Elections.
The outgoing Davao City mayor said that she will hold her inauguration earlier than the traditional June 30 schedule so that she can attend the oath-taking of her running mate and President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
"While waiting for the proclamation, I already pencilled in June 19 as the inauguration date in Davao City. The Dabawenyos' patience made me the public servant that I am today, it is only fitting to honor them the opportunity to witness the oath-taking," Duterte-Carpio said.
