Catholic-themed hotel opens in Cebu

THE first Catholic faith-themed hotel has opened in Cebu as a tribute to the country's celebration of 500 years of Christianity.

Committee on Laity of the Archdiocese of Cebu chairperson Fe Barino said the goal of the Cebu Quincentennial Hotel is to further promote faith tourism in the province and help continue to propagate the Christian faith that Filipinos embraced five centuries ago.

Barino said the hotel also provides affordable accommodation to visitors to the province, especially those who will make pilgrimages or attend religious gatherings.

"The concept of this hotel is really to give importance to the Catholic faith and to provide an affordable yet comfortable place to stay for our guests," Barino said.

The Cebu Quincentennial Hotel is an initiative of the Duros Group in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Cebu led by Msgr. Agustin Ancajas who contributed to the concept and interior design of the hotel.

The hotel stands on land owned by the Archdiocese of Cebu that was donated by the Duros Group. It is located near the International Eucharistic Congress Pavilion in Cebu City.

The hotel features religious artifacts that symbolize Christianity, including a map of the route from Spain to the coast of Cebu by Ferdinand Magellan's group with Spanish missionaries.

The hotel also houses memorabilia from the celebration of the 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines including photos, paintings, and dioramas that are on display in the rooms, hallways, and open spaces. It also has a replica of the Jubilee Cross and copies of the Cebuano edition of the Bible.
