Duterte declares June 24 holiday in Manila

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has declared June 24, Friday, a special nonworking holiday in Manila to mark the capital's 451st anniversary.

Duterte made the declaration through Proclamation 1400, signed on Wednesday by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea by authority of the President.

The holiday would give residents of the City of Manila the "full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies," the President said in his proclamation.

The celebration would still be subject to public health measures of the national government amid the coronavirus pandemic, he added.

Manila is one of 17 cities and a municipality in the capital region, which accounts for a third of the country's economic output.
