Pope congratulates Marcos on eve of inauguration

HIS Holiness Pope Francis extended his congratulations to Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for his upcoming inauguration as 17th President of the Philippines.

In his message shared by Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles Brown, Pope Francis extended his "congratulations and cordial wishes to Your Excellency as you begin your mandate as the President of the Republic".

The Pope said he prays for the stability of Marcos in the leadership of more than one hundred million Filipinos.

"In assuring you of my prayers that you will be sustained in wisdom and strength, I invoke Almighty God's blessings of peace and prosperity upon the nation," the Pope added.

Archbishop Brown has revealed the positive conversation he had with Marcos when he made a courtesy call on June 10 where the center of discussion was the strengthening of the relationship between church and government.

Marcos will be formally sworn in as president on June 30 after being elected by majority of Filipinos in the 2022 national and local elections in May.

His inauguration will be held at the National Museum of the Philippines at 12 noon. He will be sworn-in by Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo.
