500 families displaced by flooding in Ifugao
THE National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Friday said that around 500 families were displaced by landslides and flash floods caused by a downpour in Banaue, Ifugao.
According to the latest situation report, the NDRRMC said this is equivalent to around 1,500 persons residing in six villages in the town of Banaue.
The NDRRMC also said that an evacuation center is currently being used by 13 families.
Vice Mayor Donald Mongolnon said three individuals were reported injured after they were flushed away by the rampaging waters from the mountain.
"They were given the appropriate medical treatment in the town's health facility and are now recuperating," the vice mayor added.
Mongolnon said the volume of water dumped by the two-hour downpour was more than expected.
He also said that the local government is open to whatever assistance that may be extended by kind-hearted individuals or groups who want to help.
Mongolnon said the affected villages are Amganad, Bocos, Tam-an, Poblacion, Gohang and Viewpoint.
Meanwhile, at least three roads have been declared as not passable due to flooding.
Among those roads include the Banaue-Mayoyao Alfonso Lista Isabela Boundary Road (Boundary Poitan, Banaue, Ifugao), Banaue-Hungduan Benguet Boundary Road (Barangay Poblacion and Gohang, Banaue), and Nueva Vizcaya Ifugao-Mountain Province Boundary Road (Barangay Amganad, Tam-an, Poblacion and Viewpoint, Banaue).
Mongolnon said assessment is still being undertaken by concerned authorities to identify the extent of the damage inflicted by the landslides and flash floods.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided 500 family food packs worth P339,375 to affected residents.
