House opens 19th session
THE House of Representatives opened its First Regular Session on Monday morning at the Batasan Pambansa in Quezon City, its 19th for Congress.
Under the 1987 Constitution, Congress is mandated to convene once each year on the fourth Monday of July.
The House's lawmakers will elect their chief, the Speaker, during the House's session.
On Sunday, Surigao del Norte 2nd District Rep. Robert Ace Barbers said that a majority of the members are expected to overwhelmingly elect Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez as Speaker.
Later on Monday, the Senate and the House will hear President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos' first State of the Nation Address in a joint session.
