Meralco cuts July rates by 70.67 centavos per kWh

The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will cut its rates in July by 70.67 centavos in compliance with the order of the Energy Regulatory Commission to refund power consumers P21.8 billion.

The rate cut will lower the electric bills of households consuming 200 kilowatt-hours (kWh) by P141, Meralco Spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said.

Households consuming 300 kWh, 400 kWh and 500 kWh can expect to see their July bills reduced by P213, P284, and P355, respectively.

Zaldarriaga said that the rate reduction this month reversed all power increases since the start of the year.

The ERC, in its decision dated June 16, 2022, directed Meralco to implement an additional Distribution True-Up refund totaling P21.8 billion starting this month until June 2023 or until the amount is fully refunded.

"‪This will be reflected as a separate line item in the bill of the customers," Zaldarriaga said
