Angkas, Covid Task Force team up to transport frontliners

WITH limited mass transportation, Angkas, a motorcycle ride-hailing service, partnered with the National Task Force COVID-19 and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to provide free rides to medical frontliners in select hospitals.

Based on the agreement between the JTF Covid Shield and Angkas Group, its 1,000 riders would bring the frontliners assigned at the Philippine General Hospital, San Lazaro Hospital, Ospital ng Sampaloc in Manila; the East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City; and the Tala Hospital in Caloocan City.

Some Angkas riders will also be placed on standby at the National Kidney Institute, Quezon City General Hospital, Lung Center of the Philippines, Quirino Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City; and, Ospital ng Maynila, as well as Fabella Hospital in Manila.

A total of 1,000 motorcycle shields made by Angkas would also be provided to frontliners with motorcycles for their and their families’ use, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, commander of the JTF COVID Shield, said at the turnover of the Angkas shields at Camp Crame national police headquarters in Quezon City on Friday.

According to Angkas Chief Transport Advocate George Royeca, the free transportation will augment the efforts of the national government to fight the pandemic.
