Palace condoles with family ex-Comelec chief Brillantes
MALACANANG on Tuesday expressed its deepest sympathy and prayers to the family of former Commission on Elections (Comelec) head Sixto Brillantes Jr., who passed away this morning. He was 80.

In a virtual press briefing, Palace spokesman Harry Roque Jr. praised Brillantes, who served as Comelec chairman from January 2011 to February 2015, for his service to the nation.
“We condole po with the family of chair Brillantes and of course he served the nation well when he was chairman of the Comelec,” Roque said.
The former poll chair’s passing was confirmed by Comelec spokesman James Jimenez in a message to reporters.
“This is to confirm the passing of former Chairperson Sixto S. Brillantes Jr., today at a little past 11 a.m.,” Jimenez said.
He did not say the cause of the former official’s death.
But in July, Brillantes’ daughter Zeena revealed that her father was intubated at the Medical Center Manila after contracting the coronavirus disease.
