1,502 telco tower construction permits approved — Año

A total of 1,502 applications for the construction of telecommunication towers were approved by the local government units (LGUs), Interior Secretary Eduardo Año reported on Monday night.

In his report to President Rodrigo Duterte, Año said the permits were approved by 80 LGUs out of the 1,930 applications that were filed by Touch Mobile and Globe Telecommunication, Smart Communication, Dito Telecommunity Corporation, and Huawei.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said the remaining 428 applications were classified as “pending”.

In his penultimate State of the Nation Address (SONA), Duterte warned telecom companies, particularly Globe and Smart Communications, to improve their services by December, or the government would seize their assets.
