Lacson, Sotto vow to rin 'very disciplined campaign' to prevent Covid spread
SEN. Panfilo "Ping" Lacson said he and Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto 3rd intend to to run a "very disciplined campaign" to avoid turning their rallies as superspreader events for Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019).
Health Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd has warned that campaign activities could become superspreader events so he urged candidates to take the lead in observing health protocols.
Lacson and Sotto, who kicked off their campaign in Imus Arena in Cavite Tuesday, were running for president and vice president respectively in the May 9 national elections.
Sought to comment on Duque's advise, Lacson, in a text message on Wednesday said, "I agree. That is precisely the reason why we intend to run a very disciplined campaign."
Lacson said he and Sotto have "agreed to abide by the alert level protocols being imposed by the LGU (local government unit) authorities that we will visit like the kick-off campaign rally that we held in Imus, Cavite yesterday."
"Even during the mass that we attended just before the rally, we maintained the 4 per bench or pew policy of Bishop Evangelista who officiated the mass," he added.
Sotto said, "Yes, that's why we are limiting our audience also."
Lacson said that to guard against the threat of Covid-19, the Partido Reporma strictly enforced social distancing and other health protocols at the venue.
Organizers also offered free Covid-19 testing to all supporters who came to ensure their well-being.
Lacson and Sotto vowed to bring long-term positive changes to improve the lives of Filipinos and for the betterment of the country through sound policies anchored on the message "Aayusin ang Gobyerno, Uubusin ang Magnanakaw" (Fix the Government, Get Rid of the Thieves).
