2 online scammers nabbed
THE Philippine National Police-Anti Cybercrime Group has arrested two suspects engaged in an online scam during an entrapment operation in Bacoor, Cavite.
According to a report, the PNP-ACG said on Tuesday that the arrest was made at a remittance center on July 15.
Reports said that the operation was hatched after the victim identified as "Mika" claimed that she was defrauded by a Facebook user whom she had transacted with over the sale of a popular speaker brand for P14,500 on July 10, 2022.
After the payment had been made by the victim through the given bank account of one of the suspects, the item was not delivered and they blocked her on Facebook.
Another transaction was made using another FB account on July 15, wherein another victim, identified only as "Paul", ordered a blender for P3,000.
The victim paid the said amount via digital mobile banking. Through an intensive social media intelligence gathering, the operatives identified the exact location where the suspects will claim the money sent by the victim.
This prompted Quezon City cyber police to launch the entrapment operation which led to the arrest of the suspects after they claimed the money from the mobile remittance teller.
Taken from the suspects were a cellphone, a school ID card; and three P1,000 bills.
The suspects will be facing charges for violations of Swindling/Estafa of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Section 6 of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 and Aiding or Abetting in the Commission of Cybercrime.
The suspects underwent e-inquest proceedings at the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office.
